JEGGINGS: A NEW STRETCH DENIMS

This season, the skinny jean has gotten even skinnier. And denim lovers will either rejoice or cringe when the revamped jeggings -- jeans that fit like leggings -- hit the stores. Gone are the faux back pockets and front zipper. And thick leggings with airbrushed denim “color” have been given a full makeover. Now you’ll find a jean with a legging fit made of the thinnest of denim in an array of styles and fits.
The word “jeggings” is a combination of the words “jeans” and “leggings.”  As the name so cleverly indicates, jeggings are basically
jean leggings.  They are basically the way that the fashion industry has taken the skinny jean one step further.
Jeggings are especially for those who love the sleek look of a skinny jean but can't stand the leg-sucking compression, impossibly small openings at the ankles or rigid denim digging into skin, the skinny jean/legging hybrid known as jeggings could be a worthy alternative -- or just one more reason to feel like their thighs will never be toned enough.
For those who have shunned skinny jeans because they'd rather not squeeze themselves into what feels like sausage casing, trying out denim leggings can be a scary experience. But the jegging fabric is much more forgiving and the waistbands are higher than in previous skinny jean styles, which can help minimize or even eliminate unsightly muffin tops.
Jeggings are made with a higher percent of lycra or spandex than normal jeans are, which means that they have significantly more stretch to make them comfy.  They’re also much softer and less stiff than normal jeans, so you don’t have to worry that you’ll be poked and prodded by the figure-hugging fabric.  The one downside to the comfort factor is that since they use more spandex and lycra, they aren’t as breathable as normal jeans, which means they can get warm on hot summer days.
The jegging is a fairly new trend.  It’s likely to be around for a little while, but it’s not one of those classic trends that will be working the same way years and years from now.  Avoid taking a hit on a short-lived trend by either opting for a department store knock-off to get a cheaper price, or by choosing jeggings in a neutral color like black or gray to extend their shelf-life.  Neutral jeggings will seem more like leggings, and likely be more wearable once the jeggings trend has hit the road.
